With this poster Hundertwasser supported the initiative of Austrian nuclear power opponents and the Austrian referendum against nuclear power of 1980, proposing the conversion of the nuclear power plant Zwentendorf to a caloric power station, as well as the tightening of nuclear prohibition legislation (banning nuclear fission from Austria's energy supply).As early as 1978, Hundertwasser had written an "anti-nuclear manifesto." In 1980, he initiated the white paper "Kultur gegen Kernkraft" (Culture Against Nuclear Energy), where celebrities spoke out for a nuclear-free Austria. In his address on the occasion of the awarding of the great Austrian state prize for art in May 1981, Hundertwasser stressed Austria's duty to set an example with its anti-nuclear attitude for the countries of the region and for the world. "Atom Endlösung Nein" (No to Nuclear Endlösung) was also used in 1998 for brochures and postcards by the Austrian-Czech anti-nuclear committee in Linz. The occasion was the action for the prevention of the completion and going into service of the nuclear power plant Temelin, the largest power plant in Central Europe, which is located 50 kilometres north of the Austrian-Czech border.
